Ollie Robinson reflects on England’s bouncer attack against Australian tailenders. “Its something we discuss as a group. “Once we get past Cummins, we believe they have three No. 11s,” Ollie Robinson said.
There was a much to discuss following Australia’s opening innings with the bat in the Ashes 2023 Edgbaston Test. From Usman Khawaja’s magnificent knock to Robinson’s farewell to the 36-year-old. However, one topic of discussion could be England’s rapid dismissal of Australia’s tailenders in the first innings.

The Australians were 372/6 at one point in the game, but they lost their final four wickets for just 14 runs.
On short balls, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland, and Pat Cummins were all removed. Reflecting on England’s bouncer bombardment on Australia’s tailenders, bowler Ollie Robinson lamented Australia’s lower-order batters’ lack of contribution. He believes its something they discuss as a group and even mention that England believes Australia has three No. 11s.
“It was something we discuss as a group. We stated that once we get pass Cummins, we believe they have three No. 11s. “It’s something we can target throughout the series to try and wrap up their innings quite quickly and give us that momentum into our batting innings,” Ollie Robinson said after the day’s play, as quoted by cricket.com.au.
“I think it’s really pitch dependent.” Obviously, Pat Cummins is a fantastic player, and I believe we believed that bowling full to their tail would give them a chance to get some more runs, so it’s a wicket strategy, but it’s also difficult to score when it’s two-paced,” he continued.
Australia were bowled out for 386 runs as England had a seven-run advantage going into the second innings. The Ben Stokes-led team, on the other hand, got off to a shaky start in the second innings, as both openers fell victim to Australia’s speed attack.
Scott Boland dismissed Zak Crawley for seven runs, while Pat Cummins dismissed Ben Duckett. England were 28/2 at the end of Day 3 with Joe Root and Ollie Pope at the crease.
