Anjum Chopra’s touching gesture brings skipper Harmanpreet Kaur to tears. Team India was eliminated from the Women’s T20 World Cup after falling short by the smallest of margins.
Throughout the Women’s T20 World Cup, Team India excelled. The Ladies in Blue gave it their best, but it wasn’t enough as they suffered a sad loss to Australia in the tournament’s semi-finals.
The Australians set a target of 173 for India to pursue in the semis, but it proved too much for them in the end, as they only achieved 167 and were eliminated from the competition. Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain, hit an incredible 52 off 34 balls to give her team a fighting chance, but she, too, came short in the end.
Kaur appeared enraged with herself and depressed following her unlucky discharge. But it appeared like India’s captain was finally at peace when previous captain Anjum Chopra hugged her after the game.
It was an emotional moment for both of us: Anjum Chopra
Anjum Chopra discussed the event after the game. She thought on the fact that she could only offer Harmanpreet Kaur a hug after falling short by the tiniest of margins after a fantastic performance.
“My objective was to show empathy to the captain since that’s all I could offer from the outside. That was a touching moment for both of us. India has several times reached the semi-finals and then lost. This isn’t the first time Harmanpreet has batted like way. I’ve seen her struggle with her injuries and health. She might not have played today if it hadn’t been for the fact that it was a World Cup semi-final and she was Harmanpreet.” Chopra stated in an ICC video.
