Kane Williamson says that switching between the three formats is a fun challenge and that he wants to keep playing T20 Internationals. In the forthcoming home series against India, Kane Williamson will serve as New Zealand’s captain.
The Blackcaps’ elimination from the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinals in Australia has raised concerns about Kane Williamson’s T20 future. Discussions focused on the right-hander’s strike rate and T20 batting strategy. Williamson might not get the T20 captaincy even if he qualifies for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024, especially given his workload.
The lineups for the upcoming home series against India were released recently, with Williamson chosen captain in both the ODI and T20I formats. While many players in today’s game struggle to manage all three forms, the 32-year-old has voiced a desire to continue playing T20Is for his nation.
A balance must be struck in terms of merely overall volume [of cricket]: Williamson, Kane
In various ways, Kane Williamson expressed his love for all three formats and said he enjoys rising to the challenges. He went on to say that workloads should be balanced and that many players are attempting to determine how best to contribute to the team.
“Yeah, I love all the formats, for different reasons, and in fact playing the three and changing between them is a challenge that is enjoyable,”
He said.
“Everybody is a little bit challenged by that, certainly some of the players that may have done it for a long time, and you’re always looking to be clear with that direction – to stay fresh and focused on what is most important with your involvement in any team. Yeah, always looking to monitor that space as well as you can,”
He added.
