‘Will be difficult, but they need to make some harsh decisions,’ Harbhajan Singh says of Kieron Pollard’s future with the Mumbai Indians. Kieron Pollard scored 144 runs in 11 IPL 2022 games for the Mumbai Indians.

Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh says the Mumbai Indians should consider releasing Kieron Pollard ahead of the IPL 2023 mini auction in order to establish a group for the next four to five years. The deadline for clubs to identify their retained and released players is November 15, with the mini auction for IPL 2023 taking place in December. The Royal Challengers Bangalore have already transferred Jason Behrendorff to the Mumbai Indians.

Pollard, a seasoned batter, has been a superb servant for the Mumbai Indians since the 2009 season and is a member of their group. He has contributed key innings on occasion, but in IPL 2022, he only managed 144 runs in 11 innings at an average of little more than 14.

We must proceed and form a team for the next 4-5 years: Harbhajan Singh’s

The franchise needs to look beyond Pollard and make some challenging decisions for the future, according to Harbhajan Singh, a former player for the Mumbai Indians who was with the team from 2008 to 2017. He said that Mumbai would help the two young men, Tim David and Cameron Green, who could do the same duties as Pollard.

“Well, I think it’s going to be very difficult for Mumbai Indians to release Kieron Pollard. He’s been there for many years. But yes, there are times when you have to take a few tough calls and maybe this is the time. They have to move forward and make a team for the next 4-5 years and try to find someone who can do what Pollard has done over the years,”

Harbhajan said.

“Yes, they have Tim David, who can do a similar sort of job and of course, there is another Australian in the auction that is Cameroon Green. I think they will be eyeing him to be part of the Mumbai set-up. Of course, it’s going to be a tough call, but at some stage, you have to take those calls,”

He added.
