‘I’m struggling and require another operation.’ – Mark Wood. “I’ve got to get it sorted right now if I want to be ready for the T20 World Cup,” Wood said.
Following a setback upon his return, England pacer Mark Wood stated that he may require additional elbow treatment. The 32-year-old has been out of the English squad since suffering an injury in March against the West Indies.
He was unable to play for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. On July 16, he played club cricket for Ashington as an unofficial fitness test. But he did not recover well after the game.
“I’m having difficulty being honest. Unfortunately, I will require another operation. I played that club cricket game for Ashington, which was basically a test. “The ECB got me to play that game to see how it went. ” Wood told Sky Sports during the first ODI between England and South Africa.
“I’d been bowling well in the nets for two or three weeks. But it wasn’t so much during the game as it was the day after.” So my elbow is now extremely sore, and I’m having difficulty fully straightening it again. So something must be going on. It’s strange because my ankle feels like a real injury, but my elbow doesn’t feel like a real injury to me,” he added.
Mark Wood wants to be fit for the T20 World Cup.
Wood now faces a race against time to have a second surgery and complete the necessary therapy before the 2022 T20 World Cup, which begins in Australia in mid-October. The 2010 champions are already missing a number of fast bowlers due to injuries, and if Wood’s recovery is delay, he may be force to join Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes, and Saqib Mahmood.
“I need to get it sorted right now if I want to be ready for the T20 World Cup, which is my goal.” It’s just been so frustrating after doing everything I could, listening to all the experts and following their advice. “It’s so frustrating not to get over that final hump,” he concluded.
