England defeated New Zealand by seven wickets in the final Test at Headingley in Leeds on Monday. Thanks to powerful knocks from Root (86) and Bairstow (71).
Throughout the game, England was dominant. Though New Zealand set a challenging 296-run target. The English batters responded with some beautiful hitting, winning by seven wickets and the series 3-0.
Coming into the final Test, England was off to a slow start. Opener Alex Lees being run out for 9 at the team’s score of 17. The chase for England was resumed by Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope. Their promising stand was cut short at 34 runs when Crawley was caught by skipper Kane Williamson and bowled for 25 by spinner Michael Bracewell.
Ollie Pope and Joe Root then took complete command of England’s innings. The two went bowling around the park. Pope and Root kept up their good form in the series, reaching half-centuries.

England vs New Zealand: l outhee clean bowled Pope for 82 off 108 with 12 fours to end their 134-run stand.
Root and Jonny Bairstow were at the crease with England 185/3. Root held down one end while Bairstow continued his explosive run in the second innings, reaching his half-century in just 30 balls.
With Root (86*) and Bairstow scoring an explosive 71 off 44 balls, the duo stitched a quickfire 111-run stand, earning their side a seven-wicket win.
