Bengal sets a new record with nine half-centuries against Jharkhand. Bengal’s innings centurions were Sudip Kumar Gharami (186) and Anustup Majumdar (117).
Bengal played some outstanding cricket over the last two days of the Ranji Trophy 2022 Quarter-Final. They went one step further by scoring half-centuries for the first time in first-class cricket history. Jharkhand won the toss and chose to field first. Which backfired as the Bengal batters put on a great show in their first innings at the Just Cricket Academy ground in Bengaluru.
In fact, there were consistent collaborations up until the declaration on the third day. Abishek Raman and his skipper Abhimanyu Eshwaran led the charge on the first day with scores of 61 and 65, respectively. Sudip Kumar Gharami, who batted three, scored 186 off 380 deliveries. While Anustup Majumdar (117), who batted four, also scored a century for the Bengal side.

Bengal Akash Deep scores an 18-ball half-century near the end.
Coming in at five, veteran Bengal batter Manoj Tiwary scored a valiant 73 runs. The Bengal batters continued to score. Abishek Porel, the wicketkeeper-batter, came in at six and contributed with a 111-ball 68, while the last wicket to fall for Bengal was Shahbaz Ahmed for a well-made 78. When some quick runs were required at the start of day three’s play, Sayan Mondal and Akash Deep stepped up and scored half-centuries.
Deep, in particular, was aggressive from the start, scoring an unbeaten 18-ball 53 that included eight sixes, while Mondal also contributed with an unbeaten 53-run knock. In the end, Bengal declared at 773 for 7 in 218.4 overs, and it appears that the Jharkhand side faces a difficult task if they are to take the first-innings lead from here on.
Jharkhand’s bowlers had no answers for Bengal’s brilliant performance, and Sushanth Mishra took a hammering despite picking up three wickets. In the first innings, Jharkhand’s Shahbaz Nadeem took two wickets, while Rahul Shukla and Anukul Roy each took one.
