Alana King awarded national contract by Cricket Australia
Following a busy season that included the Ashes and the T20 World Cup; Cricket Australia has offered leg spinner Alana King her first national contract. During the Women’s Ashes, King made her debut and made an immediate impression, receiving a promotion during the series. Players without a CA contract can obtain upgrades by accumulating; 12 upgrade points during the year (four points for a Test match, two for an ODI and two for a T20I). Shawn Flegler, Cricket Australia’s Head of Execution (Women’s Cricket) and National Selector; said: “Alana Lord also came into the group amid the Fiery debris and hasn’t missed a beat; she delivered match-winning exhibitions over all three; groups and totally merits her spot on the list.” “Taking after the harm to Georgia Wareham, we were fortunate; to be able to supplant her with Alana, another phenomenal leg spinner. Alana and the Australian Cricket foundation merit a parcel of credit; for having somebody of her caliber holding up within the wings.”
Sophie Molineux, on the other hand, is without a contract after an injury-plagued season.

“It’s regrettable that Sophie Molineux didn’t get a contract; she’s been a key component of the team for the previous couple of years,” Flegler remarked. “Unfortunately, Sophie has missed a significant period of cricket owing to a variety of injuries; but we believe she can continue to play a vital part with a more consistent run of matches; and we’ll continue to work with Sophie and have full confidence in her re-entering the group.”
“Georgia Wareham and Tayla Vlaeminck have kept their contracts; allowing us to continue to support them as they make their comeback from long term injuries. Both are making good; progress in their; rehabilitation, and we hope to see them in action at some point this summer.
“We’ve had a core group of players perform well over the last 12 months; which has resulted in several quality individuals missing out. It’s made selection difficult, but we’re fortunate to have such depth across Australian Cricket.

“Players like Stella Campbell, Amanda-Jade Wellington, and Grace Harris have all recently played; for Australia and contributed to the team’s success, and they, like Sophie; have the opportunity to win upgrades if they continue to perform well.”
Darcie Brown, Nicola Carey, Ashleigh Gardner, Rachael Haynes, Alyssa Healy, Jess Jonassen; Alana King, Meg Lanning, Tahlia McGrath, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt; Annabel Sutherland, Tayla Vlaeminck, Georgia Wareham are among the CA Women’s contract list for 2022-23.
