Ukraine Update: According to the sister of a medical student, there is a bombing going on in Sumy.
On Saturday morning, around 800 medical students in Sumy, a city in north-eastern Ukraine; awoke to bombs in their college dorms. Their relatives are concerned because the students have been stepping out to collect ice; for basic requirements due to a lack of water, making them exposed to attacks.
“I contacted my sister this morning,” Dr Priyanka Aher, sister of medical student Mayuri Aher, who is detained in Sumy. The blasts started around 6 a.m. in Ukraine. The explosions were audible. Already, they have been without water for more than 24 hours, and the bombings are terrifying them even more. Students are forced to leave the classroom to collect ice, which they then boil and utilize for basic needs. The Indian government assures them that they will be evacuated soon; but the students are losing hope because no date has been set for the evacuation.”
“We have given up all hope of being rescued,” Aher’s sister Mayuri over the phone on Friday night. At times, I believe the Indian government is deceiving us. The Indian embassy has assured us that we will be rescued, but has not specified a time range. I’m feeling hopeless… Water supply has been cut off in various parts of Sumy; including our college dorm, as a result of yesterday’s blast. Mayuri explained, “We cooked ice to get water, even for drinking.”

“The health of certain kids with underlying problems is being harmed;” she claimed, adding that the embassy has stopped receiving their calls.
More than 800 Sumy University medical students made a desperate video appeal to the government; and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, requesting to be rescued from the combat zone.
