Quetta Gladiators‘ young batsman Will Smeed came short of his maiden Twenty20; century for the second time in the Pakistan Super League, as Peshawar Zalmi won by 24 runs. Smeed, 20, had struck 97 against Peshawar in the first leg of the PSL in Karachi and then smash; another 99 off 60 balls before Quetta was held to 161-8 on Tuesday. Peshawar’s total of 185-7 included half-centuries from veteran; Twenty20 all-rounder Shoaib Malik (58) and Hussain Talat (51) after captain Wahab Riaz; won the toss and chose to bat first.
After Malik and Talat’s fifties, Ben Cutting smashed; 36 off only 14 balls in the death overs to boost Peshawar’s total.
Cutting whacked left-arm fast bowler Sohail Tanvir (0-50) for four sixes; in the penultimate over, costing Quetta 27 runs, as the two players got into a midfield spat.
Quetta got off to a slow start against spinners Usman Qadir (3-25) and Liam Livingstone (1-24); but Smeed kept them in the game with a dozen boundaries and three towering; sixes until being clean bowled in the 18th over after missing a full delivery from fast bowler Salman Irshad.

During the powerplay, Livingstone took the crucial wicket of Jason Roy (13) in his second over; while Qadir — who was also introduced within the first six overs; – bowled James Vince for his second consecutive duck in the competition by clean bowling him with a magnificent googly.
In the second half, Qadir chipped in with two wickets in one over; catching Iftikhar Ahmed (10) on a faint edge and stumping Umar Akmal (1) with a precise delivery that turn; enough to put the batsman out of his crease.

Peshawar is fourth with eight points from eight games, while Quetta is fifth with six points from eight games.
