Before the next series against Bangladesh, eight Afghan cricketers and three members of the support crew tested positive for Covid-19. On Tuesday, tour participants who passed the test began practicing at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (February 15). COVID hit Afghanistan’s squad in Bangladesh.
A 22-man Afghanistan team arrived in Dhaka on February 12 and travelled to Sylhet the next day for a training camp ahead of the three One-Day Internationals and also two Twenty20 Internationals. After completing their tenure in the Bangladesh Premier League, three cricketers joined the touring party. Leading Afghan players Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi will join the squad before of the ODI series. They are currently playing in the Pakistan Super League.

“Look, they’re not under our protocol right now because the series starts on February 19, but whatever support they need, we’ll give it to them,” a BCB official said on Tuesday. “If the symptoms are minimal, they will be isolate; if not, we will have to move them to the hospital; for the time being, they are also looking after their own well-being,” he continued.

Those who test positive will be test again in five to seven days and, if clear, will also be able to practice with the rest of the team.
