On Tuesday, holders Borussia Dortmund were knocked out of the German Cup; by second-tier leaders St Pauli, losing 2-1 in the third round.

St Pauli clung on to reach the final eight and achieve their first win over Dortmund in 33 years; thanks to a penalty from Erling Haaland shortly before the hour mark.
“In the first 15 minutes, we created various issues for ourselves and lost a goal right away.”

We were a touch hasty in our approach to scoring the equalizer in the first half. We made a couple adjustments after falling behind 2-0. But the most important issue is how we, as the holders, got into this cup fight. That’s something we didn’t get right.”
Bayern Munich were eliminated 5-0 by Borussia Moenchengladbach in the second round; meaning that neither Bayern nor Dortmund will be in the final for the first time since 2011.
FC Cologne, who had been in the Bundesliga, was also relegated; to the second division after a 1-1 draw with Hamburg SV. In an all-Bundesliga match, Bochum defeated Mainz 3-1. In the other match of the night, second-tier Karlsruher defeated 1860 Munich 1-0 thanks to a penalty from Marvin Wanitzek.
