Former England wicketkeeper-batsman Matt Prior was unimpressed with Jos Buttler’s glovework on Day One of the second Ashes Test in Adelaide. According to Prior, Buttler’s bad footwork resulted to a disappointing day because he gave Marnus Labuschagne two lifelines.
However, Buttler’s day only got worse after he make a spectacular one-handed catch diving down the leg-side to dismiss opener Marcus Harris. As Australia dominated the proceedings, the 31-year-old dropped Labuschagne twice: first on 21 and again in the closing stages on 95.

Matt Prior, speaking about Jos Buttler’s wicketkeeping. He noted that footwork is crucial and also that he waproactive enough. A keeper, according to the 39-year-old, should dive as little as possible.
“Everyone thinks it’s the hands that get you the catch. It’s not, it’s your footwork and your hands follow. There were a couple of takes where Jos had also a dive, that’s lazy wicketkeeping. You want to dive as little as possible. Because I did the job myself, I watch the keeper very closely and there were just little clues. As a keeper, you want to dive as little as possible. You get that one chance and that’s what you’re judged on.” he said
After a poor start to their innings, Australia concluded the day on 221-2 after electing to bat first. David Warner shone once more, scoring 95 runs and contributing 172 runs with Labuschagne. Labuschagne’s 45-run undefeated run kept the visitors at bay after Warner’s exit.
Prior praised Buttler for covering so much territory in criticizing Harris, but he regretted not continuing in same vein. In this regard, the former England cricketer.
