Former cricketer Shahid Afridi was underwhelmed by Bangladesh’s surfaces during their recent home series against Pakistan. After they were humiliated by a whitewash against Babar Azam and his team, Afridi questioned them about it.
The 44-year-old hurried to Twitter to share his pleasure after Pakistan won the third and final T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday (November 21). According to Afridi, Bangladesh must improve the condition of their pitches. If they want to compete in multi-nation competitions such as the World Cup.
He said that, while the country has plenty of cricket skill, it is critical that they improve their home surfaces. Bangladesh’s performance under international situations, according to Afridi, will continue to decline if they fail to do so.
“Bangladesh really need to do some soul searching, do they want to win on such pitches and give ordinary performances abroad and in World Cups? They have great talent and passion for the game but desperately need better pitches if they want to progress.” he said
T20 World Cup
Bangladesh’s cricket squad won historic T20I series against heavyweights Australia and New Zealand at home ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2021. They, on the other hand, fared poorly in the UAE, failing to win a single match in the key Super 12s stage of the showcase tournament.
A two-match Test series between Bangladesh and Pakistan is set to begin on November 26. Chattogram will host the first match, while Dhaka will host the final, which will begin on December 4.
The series is of highest importance for the two participating teams as it is part of the ICC Test Championship. For the opening game, Bangladesh has named a 16-man squad.
