Mushfiqur Rahim revealed his availability to play the T20 series against Pakistan after the selectors’ claimed to have rested him

After the selectors claimed to have rested him, Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim announced his availability to participate in the T20 series against Pakistan. Despite a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, Mushfiqur Rahim believes there is no reason not to play the white-ball leg.

The decision to leave Rahim out of the squad supports by BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin, who stated that the national team has a full schedule in the coming months. Abedin confessed that the senior cricketer did not request rest, but that it was granted after discussing with management.

“To be honest I haven’t reached the stage when I have to tell someone I need rest. I am definitely available. Why won’t I be? I obviously had a disappointing World Cup. I needed an opportunity to bounce back. Thus, I was asked if I was available, to which I said of course I am available. But I was told that the selection committee, team management, head coach, and team director took a collective decision to drop me.” he said

Bangladesh’s dismal Super 12 run force the team’s selection committee to make changes. Apart from Rahim, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, and Rubel Hossain left out of the 16-man team, which includes three uncapped players.

T20 World Cup

Rahim, on the other hand, only made one half-century in eight T20 World Cup games. The right-handed batsman’s only fifty came in Bangladesh’s inaugural Super 12 match against Sri Lanka. He smashed an unbeaten 57 off 37 balls to help his team reach 171-4 in 20 overs.

However, Bangladesh defeated in the end, as Charith Asalanka’s 68* and Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s cameo startled the country. The campaign of Mahmudullah and co. continued to deteriorate, with the team failing to score in the triple digits against Australia and South Africa.
