The Guyana Amazon Warriors have affirmed the appointment of Nicholas Pooran as captain for the 2021 Saint Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season. Which gets underway on August 26 at Warner Stop, St. Kitts.
Pooran has been a part of the Amazon Warriors since 2018, a release on Monday. And has scored 437 runs at an average of 31.21.
However, the West Indies Twenty20 International Vice-captain. The Trinidadian had an effective debut to captaincy this year. When he led the West Indies to a 4-1 series triumph over Australia in St. Lucia.
Commenting on the appointment, Pooran said: “I am really excited to be taking on this challenge with the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Thus want to express my appreciation to the franchise for the confidence they have expressed in me. We have a great team unity going and we support each other fully. I am looking forward to getting our tournament off to a winning start.”
Operations Manager Omar khan expressed: “We have delighted in observing Nicholas develop as a cricketer. The leader amid his tenure with the Guyana Amazon Warriors franchise. And we are looking forward to seeing this travel proceed on his part as leader of our group for CPL 2021.”

Moreover, Khan reported that Afghanistan’s wrist-spinner, Waqar Salamkheil, will not be joining the squad due to visa issues and the progressing travel issues in his country.
The Warriors will not supplant him and also will adhere to the 15-man squad for the competition which ends on September 15.
Amazon Warriors play defending champions, Trinbago Knight Riders on Thursday from 10:00h.
