Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur recently shared his thoughts on the exceptional coaching approach used by former captain MS Dhoni. He shared the observations that demonstrate the seasoned player’s philosophy of developing young talent and granting teammates autonomy.
Indian cricket has greatly benefited from the achievements of Dhoni, the only captain to win all three ICC trophies (the Champions Trophy, ODI World Cup, and T20 World Cup). The two players have enjoyed a successful partnership, especially in the Indian Premier League, where Dhoni has been involved in 14 of the 71 innings in which Thakur has been dismissed as a wicketkeeper. For the national team, they have played together seven times, with the former captain only having a hand in two of Thakur’s dismissals.
Thakur also emphasized the wider impact Dhoni has had on Indian cricket. He gave the legendary wicketkeeper credit for developing young players, pointing out that he supported players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during pivotal times in their careers.
“Three ICC Trophies, the legacy he left behind, and molding so many young people. Even today’s greatest players, Virat and Rohit, had moments in their lives when they might have been dropped.
