Shubman Gill is a gift for Indian cricket: Robin Uthappa

Shubman Gill is a gift for Indian cricket: Robin Uthappa. Robin Uthappa lauded Shubman Gill’s captaincy and batting performance against PBKS in the IPL 2024.

Following the Gujarat Titans’ match against the Punjab Kings, Robin Uthappa spoke with the broadcasters. The former IPL star hailed Shubman Gill’s captaincy against PBKS. The teenage captain helped GT win their fourth match of the season. Gill has led GT admirably since Hardik Pandya’s departure, impressing many fans and experts. The youngster’s captaincy has impressed Uthappa.

Speaking about Gill’s impact to GT’s victory over PBKS, Uthappa believes the 24-year-old is a gift to Indian cricket. He said that the youngster is maturing swiftly for his age. Robin believes Gill has risen in stature as a leader thus far. The former CSK player stated that Shubman Gill might lead his IPL team to victory and could be a candidate to lead Indian cricket.

“Yes, I believe he is a gift for Indian cricket. I believe he is developing into an all-time great in the Indian cricket community. And I believe we have seen him blossom and evolve into a really prolific leader who will lead not only his IPL club, but also the Indian squad in the near future,” Robin told the presenters.

‘He needed someone to play a little bit more aggressively at the end’ – Robin Uthappa

The two-time IPL champion also discussed Gill’s batting against PBKS. The GT opener made 35 runs in 27 balls before dying. Uthappa thought it was an excellent inning. The Karnataka player claimed Gill framed his inning correctly since he wanted to bat throughout the innings. However, Uthappa stated that someone from GT should bat strongly at the other end to relieve pressure on the star hitter.

“Great inning. I believed he went about his innings correctly because it is critical for him to bat throughout the innings for GT to be successful, so he handled it that way. He wanted someone to play a little more aggressively at the end and relieve him of pressure so that he could play,” Uthappa said, urging the GT batsmen to be proactive.

Uthappa claimed that Gill threw away his wicket in an effort to boost the ante. He said that there was no need for Gill to bat aggressively, and that it was the responsibility of Sai Sudarshan. Uthappa admitted that Sai was still young and would improve in the coming days. The former Indian cricketer decided that GT and Gill will profit from Sudarshan’s willingness to bat.

“So, when he tried to boost the ante, he got out. He did not need to do it. Sai Sudarshan could have done it. But, you know, I believe Sai Sudarsan will eventually increase his strike rate. And when that happens, I believe that combination will be fantastic,” Uthappa told the broadcasters.
