The Kolkata Knight Riders have named Phil Salt to replace Jason Roy, who has withdrawn from the upcoming TATA IPL 2024 due to personal reasons. Salt, who went unsold in the auction after representing the Delhi Capitals last year, will play in his second season of the IPL.

“Kolkata Knight Riders have named Phil Salt as a replacement for Jason Roy after the latter pulled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024 owing to personal reasons. Having remained unsold in the auction after representing Delhi Capitals last year, this will be Salt’s second season in the IPL,” read a statement from IPL.

“Purchased at his reserve price of INR 1.5 crore. The aggressive wicket-keeper batter from England scored two consecutive T20I centuries against the West Indies in December last year. His 48-ball century in the fourth T20I in Trinidad is also England’s joint-fastest, according to an IPL statement.

It is worth noting that this will not be Salt’s first season in the Premier League. As he played for the Delhi Capitals last season. Salt was Delhi Capitals’ second-highest scorer in IPL 2023. He had scored 218 runs in nine innings, including two half-centuries, and his best individual score was 87. Salt was unexpectedly released ahead of the 2024 auctions in December last year.

Salt, who scored two consecutive T20I centuries against the West Indies in December of last year, is regarded as an aggressive wicketkeeper batter. Salt’s 48-ball century in the fourth T20I in Trinidad is England’s joint-fastest.

Roy was brought in by KKR last year as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan, and he scored 285 runs in 8 games for the two-time Champions.
