Kapil Dev is ‘glad’ with the BCCI’s rigorous central contract action

Kapil Dev is ‘glad’ with the BCCI’s rigorous central contract action. Dev expressed his happiness at the cricket board’s decision to prioritize first-class cricket for the good of the country, stating that any player issues would be mitigated by focusing on the nation’s well-being.

Kapil Dev, a former Indian cricket captain, has praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) strong moves, addressing players such as Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. They just lost their central contracts due to an alleged refusal to participate in domestic cricket matches during the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

Kapil Dev express glad that the cricket board prioritise first-class cricket for the good of the country, conceding that some players may encounter challenges but emphasizing the importance of the nation’s prosperity in the long term. Notably, the absence of Iyer and Kishan from the most recent central contract list aroused concerns. Given that they were classified as Grade B and Grade C last year, respectively.

“I am glad that the cricket board has made a step forward with first-class cricket. The lads should play that because it is good for the country. I am pleased with anything that benefits the country. Yes, a few players would suffer…kuch ko takleef hogi…hone do, desh se badhkar koi nahi. ” Well done.” Kapil Dev quoted by the Times of India.

No one is bigger than the game: Madan Lal

Madan Lal, Kapil Dev’s 1983 World Cup teammate, had similar comments. Emphasizing the importance of players following BCCI guidelines and actively participating in first-class games. Lal further emphasized that players should adhere to the BCCI’s decision to play first-class cricket. Claiming that no individual has precedence over the sacred game.

“If the BCCI had told them to play first-class cricket, they should have followed through. Nobody is bigger than the game. The BCCI deserves credit for mandating first-class cricket. The IPL has caused most players to take first-class cricket for granted,” Lal added.

Lal emphasized the significance of leading by example, adding that many cricketers currently overlook domestic cricket due to the IPL’s fame and prestige.

“Definitely, the BCCI made a rule that every player should go and play first-class cricket. So if you don’t follow the rules, then they have to take some action and set an example for others,” he added.
