I was only wanting to get a game, and I might play a huge role: Tom Hartley. England defeated India by 28 runs in the opening Test of the five-match series.
England spinner Tom Hartley leaked 131 runs in 25 overs on his Test debut against India in Hyderabad. He was instantly targeted by trolls, but the 24-year-old made minor modifications to his bowling and picked up seven wickets in the second innings to secure a famous victory for the visitors.
It began with Jaiswal hitting him for four on his debut ball in Test cricket. Recalling it, the cricketer stated that he was alright with it because it was not the first time a batter has come hard at him. Furthermore, Hartley stated that he loves to observe how his delivery went and the batter’s risk-taking component rather than being bogged down by their offensive strategy.
“He isn’t the first and won’t be the last! People will seek you out as a spinner. I’m fine if people want to come after me. I need to adopt a different perspective. You look back at the ball and realize it wasn’t a horrible one. “If that’s how they want to play, you just have to go with it,” Hartley told ESPNcricinfo.
Hartley’s seven-wicket haul in the second innings has also boosted his confidence for the next four matches against India. He expects a larger role from team management and claims to be prepared for what is ahead.
“When I came out here, all I wanted to do was get one or two games. I may have a large role, but I am more than prepared for it. “I want more of it,” the Lancashire-born cricketer stated.

Hartley reveals the reason behind success in the second innings
Tom Hartley stated that he slightly altered his strategy to achieve victory in the second innings of the match. The cricketer claimed that he ran in swiftly in the first innings, but in the second innings, he decided to slow things down, which resulted in success against Indian batsmen.
“When you’re playing for the first time, you just run up there quickly. And you think, “Well, just slow things down and let your actions do the work.” When I run in quickly, I tend to lose track of my actions. “I just slowed it down and kept it simple, and it appeared to work,” Hartley explained.
