The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still working out the final details before announcing the dates for the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As previously reported, the governing body intends to begin play on March 22, with the final scheduled for May 26, five days before the start of the T20 World Cup, which will be held in the West Indies and the United States of America.
The schedule can only be confirmed once the election dates have been announced. BCCI officials are optimistic about hosting the entire tournament in India, especially given its success in 2019. However, multiple countries have already approached the BCCI with a proposal to host the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league, in the event that the management decides to host some of it in another country.
Meanwhile, India’s five-match Test series against England concludes on March 11. Following that, the cricketers are expect to take a break before rejoining their respective franchises. The players will play at least 14 games, which may jeopardize their workload management, particularly with the T20 World Cup approaching.
Notably, some international cricketers may decide to withdraw and join the national team before the end of the IPL. However, the cricket boards have assured the BCCI that their players will be available until the final. Nonetheless, the decision can be reverse if the players decide to manage their workload prior to the mega tournament.
