Comilla Victorians threaten to pull out of BPL 2024 due to absence of revenue sharing model

Comilla Victorians threaten to pull out of BPL 2024 due to absence of revenue sharing model. Comilla Victorians have threatened to withdraw from the Bangladesh Premier League 2024 if income is not shared from the upcoming season.

Ahead of the tenth edition of the BPL, the event has spark controversy, with the league’s defending champions, the Comilla Victorians. Threatening to withdraw from the tournament if income from the upcoming season is not shared. Notably, BPL 2024 will begin on Friday, January 19, with the inaugural match between Dhaka Dominators and Comilla Victorians.

However, ahead of the season’s start, Comilla Victorians owner Nafisa Kamal indicated that the franchise would be unable to survive under the present BPL governing council structure. Nafisa announced her wish to implement the revenue-sharing model in 2019, but four years later, nothing has transpired. The BPL governing council announced in 2022 that it is not interested in sharing income with franchises.

“Indeed, 100%. I will not stay in the BPL (if revenue is not shared). Cricbuzz quoted Nafisa as saying, “Ticket rights, ground rights, and media rights are the three things (Victorians want a share of).”

“We launched the BPL a long time ago, but despite our large population, we are still falling behind in broadcasting. If we controlled 50% of the ticket sales rights, no ticket would go unsold. BCB does not grant us any rights, including media or ground rights,” she noted.

Nafisa went on to say that they are willing to accept even if they get the smallest part

“We will be very flexible in this regard (revenue sharing. ) We are willing to give what is good for them and if they give the lowest even that is all right but let the structure start and let us take the first step. ” She went on to say.

She also chastised the governing council for not holding a meeting with the franchises in a long time.

I told them to hold a meeting and sit face-to-face but that didn’t happen: Nafisa Kamal

“I’ve forgotten when they last sat with us. This year, I simply told them to hold a meeting and meet face-to-face, but that did not happen. I wanted to hold a meeting. “Last year, after we won the championship, I wanted to meet with the press…,” she continued.

Nafisa also voiced her willingness to join the board following the departure of BCB president Nazmul Hasan, but she does not intend to take up the position at this time.
