Jonathan Trott continues as Afghanistan’s head coach in new year. Jonathan TrotTrott, a former England hitter whose initial 18-month stint ended in 2023, will continue to lead the club through 2024.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has opted to extend former England batter and current head coach Jonathan Trott’s contract for another year. Trott, whose initial 18-month term ended in 2023, will remain in charge of the team until 2024.

Under Trott’s direction, Afghanistan’s cricket squad made significant improvement, reaching new heights in 2023. Their outstanding achievement in the One-Day International World Cup includes triumphs over cricketing giants such as Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands. Despite nearly losing to eventual champions Australia, Afghanistan’s spirited effort made an indelible impression.

“I’ve had a great time with them so far. ” “It’ll be nice to be able to build on the success we had at this World Cup. ” Trott said in an interview with ESPN Cricinfo.

Trott, who was named head coach in July 2022, instrumental in Afghanistan’s success, winning eight of 23 ODIs and 11 of 26 T20Is.

Afghanistan will aim to clinch T20I series against UAE and will tour India next

Afghanistan is currently playing a three-match T20I series against the UAE. Notably, despite winning the first game, the team lost the second T20I against the hosts.
