The cricketing world has been buzzing with new IPL 2024 updates in recent weeks. Several player deals and releases making headlines. The hottest issue, however, has been Hardik Pandya’s trade from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians just after the player’s retention deadline. In another surprising move, MI select Pandya as captain, after Rohit Sharma, who led the team to five IPL titles in 11 years as captain.

Notably, Sharma is the IPL’s joint-most successful captain, along with MS Dhoni. Who also guide Chennai Super Kings to five IPL victories in 14 years of leadership. The significant change in leadership, however, has not gone over well with MI fans, who have began unfollowing the team’s social media handles.

Since Pandya was named captain, the Mumbai Indians’ official Instagram account has lost over four lakh followers. The decision did not sit well with Mumbai fans, who expect Sharma to continue guiding the team in the following season and lead them to unfathomable heights with his astute leadership.

Rohit Sharma led Mumbai to five titles within eight years

The Mumbai Indians’ X account suffered the same fate. A big amount of fans unfollowing them in a short period of time. Fans generally believe that Rohit deserved to resign down as captain on his own terms. After leading the team through its toughest period in 2013. After MI had lost three of their first six matches, the Nagpur-born batsman took over as captain midway through the season in 2013 and led them to their first-ever title success.

From then on, there was no turning back for Mumbai. They went on to win five titles in eight years and become the league’s most successful club. As a result, Pandya will have to fill large shoes in place of Rohit, as well as carry on MI’s tradition.
