Shane Dowrich, a 32-year-old West Indian wicketkeeper-batter, has just announce his intention to retire from international cricket. He was initially name to the side for the forthcoming home ODIs against England, but he has since withdrawn. The CWI selection panel has chosen not to replace him in the three-match series, which begins on Sunday, December 3 in Antigua.
Dowrich, a brilliant batsman with a very safe hand behind the stumps. Called up to the ODI team after an outstanding performance in the Super50 Cup, when he made 234 runs in five innings at an average of 78 and a strike rate of 91.76. Because Nicholas Pooran is now unavailable for ODIs, Shai Hope will have to shoulder both leadership and wicketkeeping duties.
Dowrich played 35 Test matches between June 2015 and December 2020, amassing 1570 runs with three hundreds and dismiss 90 times behind the stumps. In June 2018, he scored an unbeaten 125 to lead the West Indies to a 226-run victory over Sri Lanka. Dowrich was born in Barbados and quickly became known for his talent. Dowrich made his Test debut against Australia in June 2015, following a strong first-class season in which he scored 615 runs at an average of 51.25. Because of his regular achievements, he was named to the national squad in place of Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
Dowrich demonstrated his abilities at the U19 World Cup in 2010, finishing as the Windies’ second-highest run-scorer. He received the Lord Gavron Award for potential young cricketers in Barbados after making his first-class debut at the age of 18.
