Mohammed Shami reflects on World Cup final loss against Australia

Mohammed Shami reflects on World Cup final loss against Australia. India lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final after failing to defend 240 runs.

The entire country is still reeling from India’s heartbreaking loss to Australia in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Fans and players have freely expressed their displeasure on social media, writing heartfelt messages for the Indian squad.

Recently, fast bowler Mohammed Shami reflects India’s dismal performance in the final. Claiming that they were short of runs with the bat. Shami stated that if the team had batted first and scored 300 runs, they would have comfortably defended the total. Notably, after being called in to bat first by the Australian captain, India were bowled out for 240 in 50 overs. The Aussies easily chased down the target in 43 overs, thanks to a magnificent century by Travis Head (137 off 120).

“We didn’t have as many runs as usual.” We could have easily defended if we had 300 runs. But I don’t think it’s fair to blame anything in particular. It is critical to assess where we stand as a group. It is critical to operate as a team. But I’ll tell one thing: we may have ran out of runs. ” Shami quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

Despite losing, Mohammed Shami had a great World Cup campaign, finishing as the tournament’s best wicket-taker with 24 scalps from only seven matches at an average of 10.70 and an economy of 5.26. The fast bowler took three five-wicket hauls in the competition and set the record for most fifers in ODI World Cup history (4).
