South Africa and Australia will face off in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16. The Proteas were bowled out for 212 in 49.4 overs after electing to bat first. South Africa’s lone warrior, David Miller, batted brilliantly for 101 runs (116 balls).

Australia got off to a fast start in the second innings, with openers Travis Head and David Warner (29 off 18) adding 60 runs for the first wicket off 37 balls. However, Aiden Markram got the opening strike for his squad by destroying David Warner’s stumps.

Australia qualified for their eighth World Cup final

However, Australia won the match by three wickets and secured their place in the tournament final by chasing down 213 in 47.2 overs. Mitchell Starc (16* off 38) and Pat Cummins (14* off 29) put on an undefeated 22-run stand to help Australia reach home after being left reeling at 193/7.

Earlier in the day, South Africa got off to a dismal start as skipper Temba Bavuma (0 off 4) remove by Mitchell Starc in the first over itself. The Proteas were left reeling at 24/4 after 11.5 overs after losing three wickets in the form of Quinton de Kock (3 off 14), Aiden Markram (10 off 20), and Rassie van der Dussen (6 off 31).

The innings were steadied by a 95-run outing by David Miller (101 off 116) and Heinrich Klaasen (47 off 48). However, Travis Head rescued Australia by dismissing Klaasen and Marco Jansen (0 off 1) in the same over. Meanwhile, Miller held one end and scored a magnificent hundred.
