Rohit Sharma’s defense has improved after the 2019 World Cup: Sanjay Manjrekar

Rohit Sharma’s defense has improved after the 2019 World Cup: Sanjay Manjrekar. On Sunday, Rohit Sharma smashed a superb half-century against Pakistan in the Super Four match in Colombo.

Rohit Sharma would be crucial in helping India win big competitions such as the existing Asia Cup and the upcoming ODI World Cup. The season batsman had a rough start to the Asia Cup, as he was bowl cheaply in India’s first match against Pakistan. He regained his form against Nepal, scoring an undefeated half-century.

The true test, however, came against Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah in the Super Four match against arch-rival Pakistan. Rohit passed with flying colors, scoring a commanding 56 off 49 balls, including six fours and four sixes. Sanjay Manjrekar lauded Rohit, noting that the Mumbai hitter has improved his defense since the last ODI World Cup in 2019, after playing regular Test cricket.

“Didn’t he get 500 in the last World Cup?” Rohit Sharma’s defense, in my opinion, has improved significantly. He is a far superior Test player than he was in 2019. So I have no problems. It’s all about turning those starts into large hundreds, which requires running a lot of ones and twos later in the innings. However, in terms of sheer defense quality, Rohit is superior today. “That natural ability to hit the big shots is still there,” Manjrekar told Star Sports.

If India wants to test the waters before the World Cup, give Suryakumar a game: Sanjay Manjrekar

Suryakumar Yadav has struggled to convert his T20 prowess into ODI success. The selectors made a bold decision in including the flamboyant batsman in India’s roster for the upcoming 50-over World Cup. Manjrekar believes that Suryakumar should be given a shot in the middle order ahead of the main event to see how he performs.

“KL Rahul’s inclusion at that position is beneficial to Indian cricket because they want to assess his match fitness.” Suryakumar should be given a game if India wants to test the waters before the World Cup. His One-Day credentials are still in doubt, and we’re not sure he’d have the same impact,” Manjrekar remarked.
