The West Indies attempting to qualify for big competitions: Carl Hooper. On Sunday, June 18, the Windies will play their first Qualifier match against the United States.
Carl Hooper, former West Indies captain and current assistant coach, made a stunning remark on the national team’s present place in world cricket. The words come after the Windies were denied a direct entry for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will be held in India, and will now have to compete in the Qualifiers to win a position.
Furthermore, the Caribbean team is rated tenth in ODI rankings, trailing Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Dissatisfied with the squad’s current standing, assistant coach Hooper stated that the team could fall to rock bottom if they do not improve their game.
“The situation has not changed. The question is, can we go any lower? Yes, we can go lower, and if we don’t qualify, we go even lower. I never imagined I’d live to witness the day when the West Indies tried to qualify for international events. “I sat in Australia and we struggled to get through it in the T20s, and now we’re in Zimbabwe. ” Hooper cited by ESPNcricinfo as saying.
“With no disrespect to the other teams, but we’re up against the likes of the United States, Nepal, and Scotland.” Afghanistan has surpassed us, and Bangladesh has surpassed us. So, this is upsetting; can we go lower? “We can go lower, yes,” he continued.

West Indies’ ODI World Cup Qualifying campaign will begin against the United States of America
On Sunday, June 18, the Windies will play their first Qualifier match against the United States of America (USA). Before their first encounter, Hooper, who appear dissatisfied with having to compete in the Qualifiers, underlined that his team will need to work their way up and avoid stooping any lower.
“This game keeps reminding you that you can go lower until you start doing the right things.” As I previously stated, I never imagined I’d live to see this day, but here I am in Zimbabwe, about to begin a game on Sunday. “We have to try to beat the Americans,” Hooper said.
