Moeen Ali has hinted that he may retire from ODIs after the 2023 World Cup

Moeen Ali has hinted that he may retire from ODIs after the 2023 World Cup. The 2023 ODI World Cup will be held in India between October and November.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has stated that he is thinking about retiring from one-day international cricket after the 2023 World Cup, which will be held in India in October and November. Moeen will be one of England’s main performers in the event. England is one of the favorites to hoist the trophy and retain their crown, thanks to the return of another key player in Jofra Archer to their lineup.

“I don’t set many objectives, but I want to play in that World Cup, be a part of that World Cup. Perhaps win that World Cup, and then we’ll see. ” Moeen was quoted as saying by talkSPORT2 before of the third and final match in the Bangladesh T20I series.

“I’m not saying I’ll retire or that I won’t retire. At 35, another seven or eight months is a long time. It’s possible that I’ll look at (Liam) Livingstone and Jacksy (Will Jacks) and think, ‘you know what, my time is up, I’d rather these people get ready for the next World Cup,'” Moeen remarked.

‘More rational and just makes more sense,’ says Moeen Ali of his retirement strategy

Nevertheless, Moeen Ali has indicated that he would continue to play franchise cricket even if he retires from ODIs. He noted that playing fifty-over cricket gets more difficult with age, but he would continue to participate in franchise cricket if he is able to perform.

“I believe that is more reasonable and makes more sense. If I’m performing well and playing all of the franchise cricket – as well as representing England – I don’t see why not. Fifty overs is harder as you grow older, it’s not simple to field, and it makes sense for me to do that,” Moeen said.
