Jasprit Bumrah doubtful for 2023 ODI World Cup. Due to a back ailment, the elite Indian bowler has been out of action since September 2022.
India may suffer a severe setback if pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah fails to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Due to a back issue, the elite pacer has not played competitive cricket since September 2022.
Since then, Bumrah has been on the sidelines, missing the home series againsr South Africa series as well as the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The 29-year-old will also miss the next Indian Premier League (IPL) and the World Test Championship final, assuming India qualifies.
As per the latest reports, Bumrah might be out of action for at least six months which leaves him in doubt for the ODI World Cup. The repeated niggles in his lower back have forced the BCCI medical department to recommend surgery to ensure his recovery in time for the huge ICC event. This would also rule out the pacer from the squad for the Asia Cup, which will take place prior to the World Cup.
“Bumrah has been ruled out of the IPL since he will require another six months to come back. Even so, he may or may not make a comeback. The 50-over World Cup is the goal, but it is not guaranteed “India Today cited a BCCI source as stating.

The BCCI will make a decision soon
Bumrah was lately preparing for his long-awaited comeback to competitive cricket by undergoing match-simulation workouts at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA). He went through the procedure to receive the NCA’s approval to compete in matches beginning with the IPL.
According to the most recent sources, the NCA medical team feels that surgery is the best line of action. The BCCI will shortly decide on the following actions and may issue a formal statement regarding the pacer. The ODI World Cup will be place in India in October-November.
