David Warner set to lead Delhi Capitals in Rishabh Pant’s absence. Axar Patel selected the team’s vice-captain for the next season.
In the absence of regular skipper Rishabh Pant, David Warner will lead the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming 16th season of the Indian Premier League. Owing to the terrible injuries sustained in the tragedy in which Pant was involve, he will miss the entire IPL 2023 in December 2022, and the Australian veteran will lead the club.
Although Warner named captain, Indian all-rounder Axar Patel will serve as his vice. Axar has been in excellent form across all forms, particularly in the present Border Gavaskar Trophy. Axar Patel has developed as a top all-rounder who can contribute with both the bat and the ball.

The Delhi Capitals sign him for INR 6.25 crore after he release by the SRH prior to the IPL 2022 mega auction.
He lived up to the team’s expectations and did an outstanding job as the opener. Warner scored 432 runs in 12 games last season. Including five half-centuries, and had his top score of 92*(58) against SRH.
Warner has been a part of the Indian Premier League for almost a decade, appearing in 13 tournaments. Warner also has experience heading an IPL franchise. Serve as captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad and guided the team to their first IPL triumph in 2016. The franchise has yet to make an official announcement on this.
“David will be our captain, and Axar Patel will be his deputy,” a member of the Delhi Capitals ownership group informed Cricbuzz.
Warner to be back in action during India ODIs
David Warner will have little issue guiding the Delhi Capitals with Ricky Ponting as the team’s head coach. Warner was in India for the Test series, but he had to return home after being ruled out of the series midway through the second Test in Delhi. The opening batter will return to play for the three-match ODI series and was chosen to Australia’s 16-man team on Thursday, February 23.
