Suryakumar hit a six off Lockie Ferguson’s second ball in the fifth over while batting. Ferguson’s delivery wasn’t awful, but Suryakumar moved slightly towards the off stump and guided the ball on the on side for a six.

Earlier in the game, India captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bat first. New Zealand scored 176 runs in 20 overs for the loss of six wickets. Led by half-centuries from opener Devon Conway (52 off 35 balls) and Daryl Mitchell (59 off 30 balls).
In response, India’s top order collapsed like a pack of cards, as the Men in Blue were reduce to 15 for the loss of three wickets in only 3.1 overs, with openers Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and Rahul Tripathi all out. The hosts attempted to stage a comeback, with Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya contributing 68 runs for the fourth wicket, but India’s run chase was severely hampered when both batsmen were removed.
Washington Sundar, who was brilliant with the ball, taking two wickets in four overs, rose to the occasion with the bat, scoring a commendable half-century off just 25 balls. He fought courageously, but his team was unable to cross the finish line, and India lost by 21 runs.
