Sandeep Sharma was let down after being unsold during the IPL 2023 auction.

Sandeep Sharma was let down after being unsold during the IPL 2023 auction. Sandeep has previously represented SRH and PBKS, as well as India in two T20Is.

The Indian Premier League has aided in the development of several international cricketers’ careers. There are still players that credit the IPL for their success and development. The tournament is one of those that may transform a person from poverty to riches. If a player performs well, he can achieve enormous popularity and overnight stardom.

There have been instances where many teams competed for a player who was not even an international player. While there are many stories of budding artists earning rich agreements, some seasoned performers do not receive a single offer during the auction. Similarly, in the IPL 2023 auction on Friday, December 23, Indian bowler Sandeep Sharma failed to capture the interest of even one side.

Sharma described himself as “shocked and disappointed” after finding no buyers for himself at the auction. The 29-year-old was shocked and stated he couldn’t believe that despite consistently playing well for every squad he played for over the years, no organization expressed interest in bringing him on board.

“I’m both surprised and disappointed. I’m not sure why I didn’t sell. I’d done well for whatever squad I’d played for, and I honestly believed that some team would make an offer for me. To be honest, I had not anticipated this. I’m not even sure what went wrong. I’ve been doing well in domestic cricket. I grabbed seven wickets in the last round of the Ranji Trophy. Sandeep told Cricket.com, “I played really well in Syed Mushtaq Ali.”

I’ve always worked hard to be consistent in my bowling: Sandeep

Sandeep has played for both the Punjab Kings and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the cash-rich event and has regularly taken wickets, especially during the powerplay, regardless of which side he has represented. That was one of the reasons he was selected for Team India’s T20I squad. Sandeep actually ranks eighth all-time in terms of most wickets per innings, having 1.09 wickets to his name. However, he was unable to find a bidder at the IPL 2023 auction.

“I’ve always worked hard to be consistent in my bowling. And that’s all I have in my hands. I have no influence on selection or non-selection. If an opportunity arises, great; otherwise, I must continue to do good job,” he added.

There is still a possibility for Sandeep to play in the IPL. The pacer, who was registered at a base price of INR 50 lakh, did not receive a bid from either of the ten clubs, but he may participate in the IPL if one of the teams signs him as an injury replacement. Given his talent and experience, Sandeep may be towards the top of the teams’ list if a replacement player is necessary.
