Anil Kumble has urged the Mumbai Indians to look for foreign spinners. Mumbai Indians were forced to accept the wooden spoon in IPL 2022.
Anil Kumble, the spin legend, has stated that the Mumbai Indians (MI) do not have a star spinner in their ranks and that they must engage in competitive bidding in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction to secure one for the following season.
At the same time, he has showered praise on young spinner Kumar Kartikeya for his outstanding performance for the team last season.
Former India skipper Kumble also suggested that MI should chase an overseas spinner among the likes of Tabraiz Shamsi, Adam Zampa, and Adil Rashid in order to complete their jigsaw puzzle.

Return to Amit Mishra or Piyush Chawla: Anil Kumble
“Mumbai Indians don’t have a marquee spinner in their ranks. Kartikeya did really well for them last year. If they have to go for an Indian spinner with experience than they will have to probably go back to Amit Mishra or Piyush Chawla. I don’t see that happening. Perhaps, the only option for them is to go for overseas spinner. Who will it be? There’s Adil Rashid, Tabraiz Shamsi, Adam Zampa,”
Kumble said.
Last year, the Mumbai Indians had a terrible season, losing every game they played in the first half. By the time they started to improve in the second half, it was already too late, and the former champions were forced to accept the wooden spoon.
As they attempt to win a record-breaking sixth IPL championship this year, the team captained by Rohit Sharma will now strive for a comeback. MI still has 20.55 crore INR in their bank account, which they want to wisely invest over the long term. On Friday, December 23, the IPL 2023 mini-auction will take held in Kochi.
One of the Mumbai Indians’ most successful players and accomplished Caribbean all-rounder, Kieron Pollard, retired from active play in the days before the auction. He would later join the team as the batting coach.
