Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has spoken about how Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2021 triumph against archrival India elevated him to national prominence and permanently changed his destiny. Rizwan said that anytime he went to any shop in Pakistan, the shopkeepers would not charge him a single thing and would treat him like a star.
The Men in Green defeated India by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2021 Super 12 match, thanks to an unbroken 152-run opening partnership between skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Pakistan’s 29-year World Cup curse against the archrival broken with this victory.

“When we won against India, I believed it was just a contest for me. It was because we comfortably won the game. But when I arrived in Pakistan, I realized how much it meant to me. When I went to a store, they refused to take my money. ‘You go, you go,’ they’d say. ‘I’m not going to take your money!'” Rizwan revealed this to Sky Sports Cricket’s Mike Atherton during an interview.
“‘Everything is free for you here,’ people would remark. “This is the passion of Pakistan after that game,” he remarked.
Pakistan had an outstanding season, cruising to the semi-finals while going undefeated throughout the Super 12 rounds. Despite this, a sad defeat to eventual winners Australia ended their campaign.
In terms of individual accomplishments, the 30-year-old won the ICC T20I Player of the Year title and was the top-ranked T20I hitter for a time until being dethroned by Suryakumar Yadav.
Rizwan was a key player of Pakistan’s sides that reached the finals of both the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup this year. Meanwhile, he has not made an impact with the bat in the ongoing home Test series against England and would be trying to preserve his best for the last game of the series on December 17 in Karachi.
