Since I was a youngster, I’ve been following Dhoni and how he ends games: Richa Ghosh. Richa has also expressed a wish to meet former India captain and great wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni.

The present T20I series between India Women and Australia Women took an unexpected turn as the Women in Blue came back stronger in the second game to even the series at 1-1. The second Twenty20 International was significant for India because they played their first-ever Super Over, set a 21-run goal, and defeated Australia at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, December 11.

But there has been one player who has had a fantastic series. Richa Ghosh, India’s wicketkeeper-batter, batted brilliantly in both T20Is. Her unbroken 13-ball 26* was a key factor in India tying the score with Australia when chasing in the second game. Ghosh has been batting aggressively, and her power-hitting abilities are presently the buzz of the town.

She addressed the media before of the third T20I and discussed her knock, saying:

“Smriti Didi (Mandhana) had told me ‘Khatam karke aana’ (finish the game and come), so I just did that. I have always focused on power-hitting. I worked hard on it and also focused on my mental toughness. It all went according to our plan. I always look to stay till the end and win it for my team. We had our plan in place. The idea was to keep the run flow going in the middle overs so that we don’t have to go hard in the slog overs.”

I’m hoping to meet MS Dhoni someday: Richa

Richa expressed her admiration for former India captain and great wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni, saying she looked up to him. She also emphasized her father’s importance in her career, which has assisted her in improving her power-hitting ability. The 19-year-old stated that she had yet to meet Dhoni and expressed her wish to meet the veteran.

“Since childhood, I’ve followed Dhoni and how he used to finish the game. My dad (Manabendra Ghosh) also helped a lot to hone my power-hitting skills, he would go with me everywhere. He could not go on to become a successful cricketer so he’s backing me fully to chase my dreams. I haven’t had the opportunity to meet him yet. There have been times when he would leave just before we were in for a camp or a match at a venue. Hopefully, I’ll meet him someday,”

She said.

Richa Ghosh will be seen next at the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup, which begins on January 14, 2023, following the end of the T20I home series against Australia.
