Every time Indian cricket fails to perform well, the IPL is falsely blamed: Gambhir, Gautam

Every time Indian cricket fails to perform well, the IPL is falsely blamed: Gambhir, Gautam. Gambhir believed that the IPL was the best development for Indian cricket.

According to former opener Gautam Gambhir, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is not always to blame when the national cricket team underperforms in major competitions. Gambhir also discussed how the IPL has helped Indian cricket in general throughout the years.

After India’s elimination from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 quarterfinal with a humiliating 10-wicket loss to England, several critics had questioned the players’ dedication to the national squad. Gautam’s comments followed. They had criticized the players, claiming that their level of commitment was only high while they were participating in the IPL. Notably, India has not claimed victory in an ICC competition since MS Dhoni’s team won the Champions Trophy in 2013.

“IPL is the best thing that has happen to Indian cricket. I can say this with all my senses. There has been lot of backlash regarding IPL since it started. Every time Indian cricket does not do well, the blame comes on IPL, which is not fair. If we don’t perform well in ICC tournaments, blame the players, blame the performance, but it is unfair to point fingers on the IPL,”

Gambhir said.

“A sportsman can only earn till he is 35-36. IPL provides with financial security which is equally important,”

he added.

One of the finest IPL captains of all time is Gautam Gambhir. In the 2012 and 2014 seasons, he had guided the Kolkata Knight Riders to two championships. From 2011 through 2017, the right-handed pitcher served as the team’s leader. In addition to their two championship victories, Gambhir led KKR to playoff appearances in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Although there are many ways in which the Indian Premier League has helped Indian cricket, it should be noted that the Men in Blue haven’t won a T20 World Cup since the tournament’s first season in 2007, a fact that has come under scrutiny after their semifinal exit from the recently concluded competition.
