“India had plenty opportunities to play him” Nikhil Chopra discusses the reasons. For Yuzvendra Chahal’s withdrawal from the T20 World Cup in 2022. Yuzvendra Chahal did not take part in any matches during the main event. And stayed on the sidelines the entire time.

England has successfully qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 championship after beating Indians in the semifinals. Although the Adelaide Oval pitch was favorable to spinners. Won owing to R Ashwin and Axar Patel who countered Chahal’s leg-spin.

Adil Rashid, an English leg-spinner, had a notable bowling performance. He not only manage to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav. Who was crucial, but he was also economical, only allowing 20 runs to pass through his four overs. Nikhil Chopra, a former Indian international, believes Chahal might have been key for the squad in Adelaide. He added that Chahal should have been given a chance earlier in the competition rather than being benched by India.

“See, India could have played Yuzvendra Chahal in some matches in the Super 12 stage. That would have given him a feel of the matches. He would have been mentally ready to play the semi-final clash, he is a clever bowler. But, with the conditions, in between 50,000-60,000 people in the crowd when you bowl, you build that confidence and India could have played him against Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, or even Bangladesh. They had enough chances to give game-time to him,”

Nikhil  said.

Nikhil Chopra said that India needed a spinner like Chahal.

Following Adil Rashid’s economic statistics for England, Chahal appeared to be the missing component in India’s starting lineup. Chopra continue by saying that India could have accomplished a lot more with Chahal’s assistance given the way Rashid’s ball kept spinning.

“Indian management would have figured out how he (Chahal) fairs in these matches and you would have had an extra spinner today. However, I am not saying that India lost today because of his exclusion from the side but certainly he would have added a lot as Adil Rashid’s ball was turning a lot, I felt India need a spinner like Chahal,”

He added.
