“Don’t Overthink It,” says ex-India captain to KL Rahul about the T20 World Cup. KL Rahul scored a half-century in India’s final Asia Cup match against Afghanistan, but he failed to score with a decent strike rate in the remaining matches.
The Indian cricket team chose a tried-and-tested squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup, which begins in mid-October. Almost all of the players who competed in the Asia Cup made the World Cup squad. Only Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, who were recovering from injuries, have returned to the squad. Rohit Sharma will lead the team, with KL Rahul serving as his deputy. The latter’s performance in the Asia Cup was closely scrutinized. Despite scoring a half-century in India’s final Asia Cup match against Afghanistan, he failed to score with a decent strike rate in the remaining matches.
Along with Rohit, opener Rahul Dravid will be expected to help India get off to a good start in the World Cup, and former Indian cricket team captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth has urged the 30-year-old to play his natural game.
“Play your own game and don’t overthink it,” Srikkanth said on Star Sports.
He also believed Shami should have been on the team. The cricket legend went on to say that the Uttar Pradesh-born pacer should have been named to the squad instead of Harshal Patel.
“Mohammad Shami should have been included in place of Harshal Patel; they will say he (Shami) is not in the scheme of things, but I don’t know why,” Srikkanth said.
