According to the latest reports. Punjab Kings head coach Anil Kumble will not be retained by the IPL franchise, and a new head coach will be appointed. After Brendon McCullum left to join the England Test team as head coach, the Kolkata Knight Riders named Chandrakant Pandit as their new head coach.
Punjab Kings are one of the few franchises that have yet to win the prestigious IPL trophy since its inception, and their name change from Kings XI Punjab hasn’t changed their fortunes. In fact, the franchise hasn’t made the IPL playoffs since the 2014 season, when they reached the finals and finished runners-up.

Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss have been approached for the position of head coach.
According to sources, the franchise will not renew Kumble’s three-year contract. Which expires next month, and Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss approach to take his place. The source also mention an Indian coach being approach, though the name not revealed. The franchise expects to confirm the new appointment within a week.
“It appears that the Mohali team has decided not to renew Anil Kumble’s three-year contract, which expires in September.” They are already looking for candidates. Their representatives are said to have approached Eoin Morgan, Trevor Bayliss, and one former India coach. One of them, or none of them, may eventually get the job. According to Cricbuzz sources, “a Punjab Kings official said they will decide in a week.”
Punjab won 19 of the 42 games they played during Kumble’s tenure as head coach. Despite fielding a strong squad this year that included Liam Livingstone, Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, and Kagiso Rabada, the franchise finished sixth with seven wins in 14 games. Notably, KL Rahul opted out of being retain by the Punjab franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Which raise many eyebrows about the atmosphere in the camp.
