The West Indies fielded exceptionally well in the first T20I against New Zealand on Wednesday at Sabina Park in Jamaica. Shimron Hetmyer set the tone with a one-handed screamer to dismiss New Zealand Martin Guptill. What followed was another brilliant catch from his teammate Hayden Walsh Junior. Kane Williamson’s stint at the crease was cut short by the latter’s spectacular catch on square leg. Odean Smith bowled a short ball to Williamson. Who was batting on 47 off 32 balls when he pulled it towards square leg in search of a boundary, but Hayden Walsh’s stunner denied him a half-century.

Concerning the match, West Indies’ season of white ball woes continued as New Zealand won the first T20I of the three-match series by a margin of 13 runs. Fresh from a successful European tour, the Black Caps batted first and posted a formidable 185 for five in a rain-interrupted innings before their best bowlers combined to restrict the Caribbean side to 172 for seven in reply.

The New Zealand innings was led by Devon Conway (43 off 29) and Kane Williamson (47 off 33), while Mitchell Santner (3 for 19 in four overs) shone with the ball in the second innings.
