Iyer and Hooda will compete for an Asia Cup spot as India looks to win the series. Deepak Hooda, who has made the most of the opportunities presented to him. Appears to be on track to outwit Iyer for the big ticket T20 World Cup berth at the moment.

Shreyas Iyer’s performance will be scrutinized as India prepares for back-to-back T20Is. Against the West Indies, which begin here on Saturday. The dual goal of winning the series and solidifying the squad for the T20 World Cup. India currently leads the five-match series 2-1. Nothing would be more satisfying than a couple of thrashing wins in front of the USA’s Indian diaspora. Which is looking forward to a fun weekend of cricket. However, in today’s India, if there is one man whose performance will be scrutinize more than any other, it has to be Iyer.

Deepak Hooda, who has made the most of the opportunities presented to him, appears to be on track to outwit Iyer for the big ticket T20 World Cup berth at the moment.

With KL Rahul and Virat Kohli set to return to the playing eleven for the Asia Cup, time is running out for the 27-year-old Mumbaikar, who has scores of 0 (10 balls), 10 (11 balls), and 24 (27 balls) in three games so far in the ongoing series.

He appeared uneasy in the face of the fast and rising deliveries.

While the short ball is his main issue, watching Iyer gives the impression that he is unable to decide at what pace and gear he will bat in a T20 game, which is not the case when he is taking strikes in the 50-over format.

So far in head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure. No player has gotten a raw deal in terms of chances and has been given enough rope to succeed.

However, in the case of Iyer, his T20I performance has not been as impressive as his ODI performance.

Even so, Dravid has given Iyer nine T20I games in the last two and a half months. One of which was a wash-out in Bengaluru. There hasn’t been a single fifty-plus score even when he was given a chance to come out within the first ten overs.

If Iyer gets a chance in the final two games, he will have no choice but to put his best foot forward because the Asia Cup team will almost certainly also be the likely team for the T20 World Cup.

Even if Iyer makes the Asia Cup or T20 World Cup squads, he has a slim chance of making the first XI in a crowded top-order.
