Only by playing Test cricket, Your first-class structure improve: Ravi Ashwin. Earlier, Ravi Shastri suggest that the number of Tests be reduce amid the hectic international schedule, to which Ashwin respond.

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri made a contentious statement about Test cricket. Suggesting that the format should be limited to the top three or four cricketing nations. Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin disagreed with the former Indian captain’s suggestions. Spoke out about the importance of Test for all nations.

Among active players, Ashwin is the leading wicket-taker for India in red-ball cricket. While he has been a stalwart in India’s leading global T20 league. The IPL, he believes Test cricket is essential for the growth of T20. He believes that the first-class structure feeds Test cricket, and that a country can only improve in the shortest format of the game if players are given more opportunities in FC cricket to shape their game for the T20 format.

“Recently, Ravi Bhai stated that Test cricket should be made into a format in which only three or four nations compete. However, when three or four nations compete, teams such as Ireland will not be able to participate. Only by playing Test cricket will your first-class structure improve. People will be given more opportunities only if your first-class structure is strong. And players who excel in first-class cricket adapt their game to T20 cricket. “That’s how cricket has evolved,” Ashwin explained on his YouTube channel.
