“Excite and privilege to be back in #TeamIndia colours, working alongside long time colleague, friend and Head Coach Rahul Dravid. Much of our journey was thanks to @rajasthanroyals,” Upton said in a tweet.
Upton recalled to the national team on Tuesday.
“It is a short-term arrangement for a period of four months,” a senior BCCI source had told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Upton was first brought in by former India coach Gary Kirsten when he took over the senior national team in 2008, and they worked well together until 2011.
Upton has since worked with Dravid at the Rajasthan Royals and has been associated with various IPL teams.
It is understandable that Dravid approach Upton to become acquainted with his working style. Which had worked wonders for the Indian team over the last decade. During the previous IPL, Upton was the Rajasthan Royals’ ‘team catalyst.’
With India’s T20 World Cup schedule beginning with a game against Pakistan in Melbourne on October 23, Dravid may have recognized the importance of having a man who is known for being a motivator as well as assisting players in coping with the rigors of international cricket.
