Travis Head should learn how to play on Asian pitches, According to Allan Border. Border also wants Head to learn from Hayden, who has had great success in Asian countries.
Former Australia captain and veteran Allan Border believes that middle-order batter Travis Head should learn how to play spin before the team’s next tour of India. Border has suggested that Head examine Matthew Hayden’s performance in the subcontinent and make appropriate changes to his batting technique.
To be sure, Head struggled in Australia’s red-ball games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Head only managed 91 runs at a poor average of 15.17 on two recent Asian tours, with his highest score being just 26 runs.

He is an excellent player against all but the turning ball: Border on Head
“Travis Head has to sit down and figure out a better method than what he’s doing right now.” “I’ve talked to him a little bit about batting on spinning wickets,” Border told cricket.com.au.
“He needs to learn to sweep and sweep well.” And he needs to use his feet because no one seems to be willing to go down the track and defend themselves. There are only a few minor details. He is an excellent player against all but the turning ball. That is the chink he needs to work on, but it is (play the) sweep shot, use your feet, get on the front foot, and use nice soft hands when defending,” Border added.
He also wants Head to learn from Matthew Hayden, who has had great success play on Asian pitches. The left-handed batter had 1,663 hits in Asia at an impressive average of 50.39. He also destroyed India’s bowling attack during their 2001 series, scoring 549 runs at an average of 109.80.
“Hayden is an excellent example. You’re talking about a kid who batted five times a year at the Gabba, then at the WACA… “When the pitch at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) turned, that was the only place that really (gave you a chance to bat) against a spin bowler,” Border explained.
