During the second ODI, Axar Patel breaks MS Dhoni’s long-standing record. After winning the second ODI, India completed their 12th consecutive series victory over the West Indies.
Team India defeated the West Indies in the second One-Day International (ODI) in Trinidad on Sunday. July 24th, to win the three-match series 2-0. During his match-winning aggression, India’s man of the hour, Axar Patel, broke MS Dhoni’s 17-year-old ODI record.
The hosts dominate the match and appear to be on their way. To a series-leveling victory until India’s Axar Patel came into bat in the 39th over of the second innings, with the visitors struggling at 205/5. The southpaw hit the ball crisply from the start and appeared to be batting on a different track than the other Indian batters.
The all-rounder remained composed during a record-breaking chase as wickets fell at the other end. The southpaw scored his first ODI half-century in just 27 deliveries before finishing the match with a massive six down the ground. His match-winning six was not only reminiscent of MS Dhoni’s days. But it also broke the former Indian skipper’s record for most sixes hit in a successful run chase for India while batting at number seven or lower.
Notably, Dhoni set the record in 2005 when he hit three sixes against Zimbabwe, and former Indian explosive batter Yusuf Pathan matched it twice in 2011. However, Axar’s innings of 64 off 35 deliveries included five maximums, breaking the 17-year-old record held by the Indian legend.

The left-arm spinner was India’s most economical bowler in the first innings. Returning with commendable figures of 40/1 in his nine overs. During the post-game press conference, he expressed his desire to continue performing similarly for the team in the future.
“I believe this is a special one.” It arrived at an important time and also contributed to the team’s victory in the series. We did the same thing in the IPL. All we had to do was stay calm and keep the intensity up. I was playing an ODI for the first time in nearly 5 years. “I’d like to keep performing like this for my team,” Axar said.
