After testing positive for Covid-19, Jason Holder is likely to miss the entire ODI series. India won a nail-biting thriller against the West Indies in the first ODI.
Jason Holder, one of the best all-rounders in modern times, has been infected with Covid-19 and is unlikely to play in the current three-match ODI series against India. Holder had previously been rested for the Bangladesh Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, and head coach Phil Simmons was delighted to welcome him back for the series against India.
Given his experience and skill set, the 30-year-absence old’s now will be felt greatly. The former captain can bat in the top six and bowl in different phases of the game. He is also one of the safest fielders and would have made a huge difference in the West Indies’ inexperienced side right now.
During the toss in the first ODI, West Indies’ new captain Nicholas Pooran confirmed that Holder has contracted Covid-19 and stated that the team remains unchanged from the previous assignment against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the first ODI between West Indies and India went down to the wire, with the Shikhar Dhawan-led side edging out the hosts. West Indies fell three runs short of their target of 309, despite an attack in the final overs from Akeal Hossein (32) and Romario Shepherd (39). Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan stole the show at the top of the order with a 97-run knock, while Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer both scored half-centuries.
Despite a strong start, India’s middle order crumbled as they posted 308/7 in their allotted 50 overs. However, the Indian bowlers kept their cool towards the end and helped India win the first ODI. The second ODI is scheduled for July 24th at the same venue, Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
