The Barmy Army Celebrates England’s Star’s Ton in the Third Test Against New Zealand in a Unique Way. While it was Jonny Bairstow’s second consecutive Test century and his tenth overall, the Barmy Army celebrated in an unusual way.
So far, the third Test between England and New Zealand has been a neck-and-neck battle. Despite the fact that England has already won the three-match series, New Zealand is determine not to let their morale suffer in the final Test. In the third Test at Headingley, Leeds, the Kiwis batted first and scored 329 runs before reducing the Three Lions to 55/6. When the match appeared to be heading in New Zealand’s favor, England respond with the help of Jonny Bairstow and Jamie Overton, who added an unbeaten 209 runs for the seventh wicket on Day 2.
While Overton remained unbeaten on 89, Bairstow hit a century (130 not out). What made Bairstow’s unbeaten innings even more remarkable was his strike rate of 103.17.
While it was Bairstow’s second consecutive Test century and his tenth overall, the Barmy Army, a popular fan group of England’s national cricket team, celebrated in an unusual way. The fans took their shoes off, picked them up in their hands, and chanted, “shoes off if you love Bairstow.”

On Saturday, Bairstow and Overton will resume the England innings on Day 3 of the third Test match. The pair will look to extend their 209-run partnership as England remains 65 runs behind New Zealand in the match. The Three Lions will begin the day with a score of 264/6.
Trent Boult (3/73) and Neil Wagner (2/53), who were the standout bowlers the previous day, will look to add to their tally and reestablish New Zealand’s dominance in the match.
